On August 14th, 2017, I entered Recovery Point Bluefield straight off the prison bus a broken, angry, and lost man. I had been in active addiction for over 20 years and in and out of jail and prison. I was facing the possibility of a life sentence or a chance at rehab. I had never been offered rehab before and didn’t know what to expect. I was greeted immediately by other like-minded people who asked me if I needed anything and told me they loved me. This was something I was not used to and I didn’t know if this was the place for me. But I gave it a chance and decided to do everything I was asked to do because I saw hope in the staff that worked there at the time and had all been where I was at and come through Recovery Point and they had what I wanted. A life of sobriety, their relationships with their family, a job, and most importantly, they were happy being sober!

Recovery Point and the men I came through the program with Taught me the importance of accountability and integrity. Something I had never had before. Recovery Point also showed me how to love myself as well as others.

When I graduated in 2018, I went to work at a welding and fabrication shop where I quickly became a supervisor. I would come to Recovery Point every day before work to hang out and talk to some of the new guys in the program to try and give them some hope that they could do this if I could. I also hired 15 Phase 2 guys over the year I worked there. As time went by, I started working part-time at Recovery Point and quickly found out that working in recovery was what I wanted to do. I was offered a full-time position and gratefully accepted it. Since then, I have held several leadership positions here and took the position of Program Director in December of 2023.

Since coming to Recovery Point in 2017, I have been able to take care of all my legal obligations, bought a new car, got married, had another son, and recently Bought my first house. All these things I never thought were possible for me and were only for “normal” people, I have been able to obtain and all I had to do was the next right thing. Trust God Clean house and Help others. This is what Recovery Point has done for me and continues to do for me every day. It not only gave me my life back but also gave me a life that I never thought possible.
